Sri Lanka Family Holiday: Tea Trails, Leopards & the Indian Ocean

December to April

 Colombo · Kandy · Tea Country · Ella · Yala · South Coast13 nights

Ancient temples and misty tea plantations. Train journeys through emerald-green hills. Elephants, monkeys and the possibility of a leopard appearing from the undergrowth. Then, after all that adventure, a few wonderfully slow days beside the Indian Ocean.

Sri Lanka packs an extraordinary amount into a relatively small island, which makes it particularly good for a family holiday. There is always something new around the corner, but the distances are manageable enough that the journey never needs to feel rushed.

You'll travel privately with your own chauffeur-guide, staying in some of Sri Lanka's most memorable places along the way — from a historic tea planter's bungalow in the highlands to a luxury safari camp beside Yala National Park, before finishing at one of the south coast's most beautiful retreats.

It's adventurous enough for children, beautiful enough for grown-ups and, importantly, there's plenty of time built in simply to enjoy where you are.

This 13-day odyssey through Sri Lanka costs from £19,972 per family based on two adults and two children

Why Sri-Lanka is brilliant for families

Sri Lanka is one of those rare destinations that manages to feel adventurous without becoming hard work.

In one relatively compact journey, families can experience colourful cities, ancient temples, misty tea country, spectacular train rides and elephants and leopards on safari — then finish with a few properly relaxing days beside the Indian Ocean.

There is always something new around the corner, which makes Sri Lanka particularly good with children, but the pace can still be kept gentle. Travelling privately with your own chauffeur-guide gives you flexibility along the way, while a mixture of two-night stays and a longer beach finish means you're not constantly packing and moving.

Crucially, this isn't a trip where the grown-ups have to compromise. Sri Lanka has exceptional hotels, genuinely interesting food and some of Asia's most beautiful landscapes, so it feels every bit as rewarding for parents as it does exciting for children.

Babies & toddlers

0-2

A private chauffeur-guide makes Sri Lanka surprisingly easy with younger children. Longer stays, lovely hotels and plenty of pool time give families space to slow things down.

Little explorers

3-6

A country full of excitement

Tuk-tuks, monkeys, colourful temples, train journeys and elephants on safari make even simple days feel like an adventure.

Young Adventurers

7-10

Possibly the perfect age

Tea picking, wildlife safaris, gentle walks and scenic train journeys give children plenty to get involved in rather than simply watch.

Tweens & Teens

11-18

Plenty to keep them interested

Wildlife, surfing, hiking, photography, local food and some seriously memorable hotels give older children plenty of their own highlights.

Grown ups

Because it’s your holiday too

Exceptional food, beautiful landscapes and genuinely special hotels mean the adults never feel as though they're simply along for the children's trip in Sri Lanka.

Your tailor-made Sri Lanka
family holiday

Your journey, not ours

This is a starting point.

Want longer on the beach? We'll change it.

Travelling with younger children and want fewer stops? Easy.

Obsessed with wildlife? We'll build in more safari.

Want a villa on the coast rather than a hotel? We know some exceptional ones.

And if you've already been to Sri Lanka, we'll happily take the whole thing apart and create something completely different.
