The Art of Packing Well: What Travel Experts Pack (and Leave Behind)
What we take, what we leave behind, and the little things that make travelling better.

Packing is a surprisingly personal affair. Some of us swear by travelling light, others like to be prepared for every eventuality. But whether it's a well-thumbed paperback or an indispensable gadget, we all have those few things we wouldn't dream of leaving home without.
We asked three members of the Club Voyages team what always earns a place in their suitcase — and what they're more than happy to leave behind.
Sam — A Good Book, Not a Laptop
Always packs: A book. There's something rather lovely about getting lost in a good story while getting lost somewhere new. Whether it's beside the pool or on a long flight, a proper book is an essential part of switching off.
Happily leaves behind: The laptop, would like to leave behind, can't yet! Holidays should be an opportunity to disconnect, and leaving the laptop at home is a good place to start and something he will always recommend.

Emily — Prepared for Anything
Always packs: A portable charger and plasters. Because there's nothing worse than a dead phone halfway through a day exploring, or a blister threatening to ruin a perfectly good afternoon.
Happily leaves behind: Books. Not because she doesn't love reading, but because her Kindle holds an entire library without taking up precious suitcase space. More room for holiday purchases.

Rachael — Room for Inspiration
Always packs: A notebook and pen. When you're away from the everyday routine, your mind has a wonderful habit of wandering. New places, conversations and experiences can spark the best ideas, and it's always worth having somewhere to capture them.
Happily leaves behind: Most of the makeup. A holiday is the perfect excuse to simplify the routine, let your skin breathe and embrace a more carefree approach to getting ready.
